Members of the Foundation Celebrated at Newcastle City Council’s Inspirational Women Event
Newcastle City Council hosted an Inspirational Women event, and two members of the Foundation were highlighted as positively impacting the North East.
Not one, but two incredible women within the Foundation were selected as inspirational people within the North East by Newcastle City Council!
Molly, a learner at Northern Counties and Mandy Davison, a Higher Level Special Support Assistant at Northern Counties were invited to Newcastle’s Civic Centre for an afternoon of celebration for International Women’s Day.
Molly was spotlighted for her amazing achievements: she was awarded a grade 8 in her GCSE art (the equivalent of an A*) and was also the winner of local MP Catherine McKinnell’s Christmas Card competition for her beautiful design which depicted the Angel of the North.
She was also celebrated for her achievements within the BSL choir, who were recently showcased at the MOBO awards at the Utilita Arena. Her hard work and dedication have made her into a role model at Northern Counties, and she is truly deserving of this recognition.
Molly thoroughly enjoyed the event – the food was a highlight! She also particularly enjoyed the poetry performance by Tahmina Ali, a New Writing North poet who is a British-Bangladeshi, Geordie spoken word poet, producer, facilitator, and creative practitioner – as she eagerly filmed the performance.
Mandy was also recognised for her dedication to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities across the North East. Mandy has worked at the 91Ę×·˘ Foundation for 20 years, and in her time here has supported over 150 pupils.
She’s also the leader of Northern Counties’ BSL choir and hosts a parent signing class every week to support parents and carers with learning BSL. Anyone who knows Mandy knows how dedicated she is to supporting others, even running a Deaf Club outside of work to continue guiding her community.
Both Molly and Mandy have been featured in a booklet in celebration of International Women’s Day. We are incredibly proud to have both of these remarkable women as part of our Foundation and to see their achievements recognised.
They also had the fortune of meeting Amanda Staveley and hearing her inspirational words about being a woman in the sport industry and Huntingdons Disease. She couldn’t predict the score for the upcoming match at Wembley but wished them the best of luck!
Congratulations Molly and Mandy!
